Experience: Experience: I have been digging up volleyballs ever since my brother, Joe (Director), started spiking them at me. I was captain at Niles West High School and played as a defensive specialist (no libero during my year). I also played club volleyball and followed my brother to plenty of open gyms where I learned how to be part of the team and eventually lead the team.
My coaching career started straight out of high school. As much as I wanted to play volleyball in college, I felt that I would serve the sport better by teaching others what I’ve learned. Last year at Skyline VBC, I was the head coach of the 17/18 year old girls division. Along with coach Chellore, we have coached the majority of these girls for the past four years. There were some downfalls along with many championships yet the most rewarding part of the journey was how the team has grown to be just that…a team, on and off the court.
Team Goal: Team Goal: For the 2013-2014 club season, my team is Skyline. My philosophy as a coach has always been to make the team grow as a family first. As a continuous improvement coach, my personal goal is not just to develop the skill of the individual, but most importantly to challenge the individual to become a leader on the court and to influence others to be leaders as well.
“The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team” – Phil Jackson
Schools attended: Niles West High School (GO WOLVES!); University of Illinois at Chicago
Personal Info: Personal Info: I was born and raised in Skokie, Illinois. I’m a really cool (not nerdy) tax analyst for Illinois Tool Works Inc. by day and volleyball coach by night. My hobbies include playing other sports (practically all of them), board games, violin, and photography. On May 18, 2013 I married my first and only girlfriend, Chellore, who is practically the girl version of myself and does all of the above with me……literally…we even work together =)
