Athletic Background: Played volleyball for the Niles West program and set the JV team to an undefeated 19-0 season. Following that played for Marquette University as a Defensive Specialist (liberos didn’t exist). Continuing to compete, I played in USAV Adults A/BB and received a 8th rank at Nationals in 2007. I continue to play competitively with friends at open gyms.
Experience: Volunteered coaching at Niles West high school, since 2000 and finally cut my teeth as a head coach for a local club in 2009 and coached that team to 4 tournament wins my first season. Moving to another local club, I coached a 16’s team to 1st place in the inaugural season of the Great Lakes Windy City Power League and held it for half the season, until injuries plagued our team and still ended 3rd place amongst 53 local club teams. I ended my 4th season coaching Niles West Boys JV, with an accumulated record of 90-11 and 5 tournament wins. I am currently enjoying my 3rd year coaching high school girls volleyball for Maine South. My first two season were with the JV girls and both season we went 28-3 in season and ended overall 3rd in the Central Suburban League Conference. I currently finished my first year as the Varsity Head Coach where we ranked 6th out of 21 teams in our Sectional. I volunteer coach during the summers at numerous college camps such as the University of Iowa and Wichita State University.
Team Goal: Team goal is to always lay down the plan for pre-season. Starting the season on the right foot with ball control, ball control, ball control. We will focus on the first 4 contacts, serve receive, digging, blocking and serving. As practices move along, we will understand our offensive schemes and defensive systems. We will be the best out-of-system team whenever we play an opponent. All the while, my players are enjoying each others company, competitiveness and camaraderie.
Schools attended: Niles West High School, Oakton Community College, Marquette University, Kendall College
Personal Info: I am a classically trained chef and have worked at The Peninsula Hotel, Chicago. I have traveled overseas to cook in China and in Mexico and hope to travel and cook in Brazil. I love cooking and dining as much as I love volleyball. Let’s talk recipes! I taught photography courses at Gallery 37 and The Art Institute downtown. I love spending time with my wife Charina and my son NJ watching movies and walking our rescue pit bull/lab mix Millie.
